I had a caterpillar and I didn't notice when it turned into a cacoon. But my sister took it to school and when she got home the cacoon was on the tank floor. (the tank is small) And the cacoon now looks brown with really dark brown at the bottom. Is it still alive? And if it is, what can I do to put it back up? (I don't have hot glue)

One reason I'm asking is because my mom was rasing butterflies in her classroom and when one was still a cacoon it fell and came out with deformed wings, and I'm afraid that will happen to my caterpillar.

If this helps, I also read that if it's not hanging when it hatches from the cacoon, it's wings won't have room to open and it will not be able to fly!

i don't think it matters if it fell... its still in its "asleep" stage and holding to the side just gives it somewhere to support itself so that it can make its cacoon. keep an eye on it as it keeps on developing. the color change is just the catapillar inside turning into a butterfly!

I think your sister scrambled the cacoon, be careful you may have a retarded butterfly come forth.LOL...

Naw just let it stay there too much moving can be harmful.

It should be ok. The outside of the cacoon should protect it.

It should be alive. Tape it to a branch.
