well, I'm not knocking the event, but tequila never comes with a worm.
That would be mezcal you're talking about, and probably a cheap one at that, as the worm is kind of gimmick in cheaper ones. Mexican law actually prohibits the use of insects or larvae (which is what is really in mezcal, not a real worm) in tequila.
Like tequila, mezcal is distilled from the agave cactus, but not blue agave, which by law is what tequila has to be made from. The distillation process, and thus the ending results are also quite different.
The distillation uses a good bit of smoke from the fire, which adds a smokiness and complexity to the flavor, that tequila does not have. Mescal also has to be at least 81% agave, as opposed to 51% in tequila, although quality products of either one would always be 100% agave.
