The way to find out some of the history of the house you live in, is to get hold of the deeds to the property. The deeds tell when the house was built and something of the previous owners.
The Land Registry database is where you start.
Other sources of info include your town hall and their achieves. Also the achieves of your local newspaper[s] who may have articles [historic] about the area in which you live. Photographs etc.
The best you might get from a search engine if you type your address is a map, maybe.
One thing you can try is old maps.
My house was built in 1937 and it's history has not been difficult to find out about. Lots of local info plus I've got the deeds.

The Register of Deeds at your County Court House would be the place to start. In most states this is the office to contact.

if you're looking for buying/selling history and any structural information. Write to the local council with your requirement. Some information may be confidential, but I'd start there. Also try Upmystreet.com which will give you historical data about the neighbourhood and local culture.

You can contact the Land registry, they will give you details of everyone who has lived there since it was built.
The local council may also have some records such as planning applications etc.
