Because the show had changed by that time. Originally it was a show called "Good Morning Miss Bliss", produced by Disney, and featured Disney star, Hailey Mills.

By the time the kids moved on to Bayside, Mills had walked, and NBC picked up the show. Mills was replaced by Mr. Belding, and two kids, Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez replaced two of the kids. The show then became, "Saved by the Bell".

Since NBC owns the rights, the "Miss Bliss" episodes air now as "Saved by the Bell" also.

I think you are confused. They didn't change the main characters between jr high and high. They were the same. They added new people in the mix.
Also their movie careers or headline problems (mark, elizabeth, tiffany, dustin) didn't begin til after s.b.t.b was cancelled.

Some character changed when they try to do a college version of the show, but that didn't last long.

They might have wanted too much money, or they actors were just tired of doing it. Elizabeth Berkley did Showgirls, so it was kinda hard for her to go back after bearing it all. Tiffani Thieson did movies and moved on to better things. Zach and Mario, they both moved on. Screech went back, but then he couldn't do anything more, since he will always be known as Screech, even though he hates being type casted to that character, but oh well.

LOL who knows. They probably wanted to do other things... or had personal issues to deal with.

All I know is that Dustin Diamond (Screech) is a total f*ckhead who thinks entirely too much of himself.
