Even if they were insane that does not mean its ok to kill a child or harm a child...they should still be in jail w/ the death penalty.....it may teach parents to get help when they see depression signs........

I am sorry if I sound ignorant in your eyes...by "off the hook" I mean they do not have to worry about the death penalty...Hello Post Partum depression never gives a woman and excuse to kill a child...Look at brook shields she got help for her Post partum and that saved her child...Murderers in general should never be found "not guilty by reason of insanity" is should always be "guilty" they may still serve in an institution but should know that just b/c they are "crazy" they must still pay the price for murdering an innocent life!

I hate the "insanity" plea. Of course someone who murders another human being is insane. That is a given. The fact is, they are a murderer and a danger to society and can no longer be trusted.

A murderer should receive the death penalty or life in a box, but they should never be allowed to associate with other human beings again. They have lost that privilege.

Mental illness is not an excuse. It does not make it okay to kill or harm a child or anyone else. However, executing a mentally ill person accomplishes nothing. Family responses to signs of mental illness are very complicated. What is needed is to for resources to be made available to families before terrible things happen. Unfortunately, mental illness stigmatizes families and sufferers and makes it difficult to ask for help even if resources are made available. Not guily because of insanity does not mean the defendent is released. It means that they will be placed in a setting where treatment is available.
