Start with networking certs as mentioned above. Decide if you want to be a general admin, or someone more specialized, i.e., MS, UNIX, LINUX and get those certs. Get yourself some equipment, i.e, desktops, routers, switches then build and administer your own little network. That way you'll have tech and functional answers on interviews.

Start with network+ and A+ get some knowledge of Server 2003 and apply. Don't listen to those idiots claiming you need a 4 years degree to setup a password for a new worker.
