The mitre hotel, which is basically a public house just off exchange square, or the Ramada Renaissance Hotel, a pricey 4 star with great views! just a short walk down deansgate.

I went to manchester for the first time in nov to a concert in the arena and i stayed in the travel lodge just up the road from it about a 15 min walk from stadium or something it wasnt far anyway and it was lovely the room was great lovely and clean and very handy from walking back from the concert late at night.

Travelodge on Blackfriars street is only a few minutes away. Plus, lots of people stay there when an event is on, so there will be plenty of people walking back in that direction. No dark streets to go down either.Not a luxurious place, but clean and adequate.

Check out on trip advisor, stayed in one it was really grotty, really awfull, not sure on the name so best not guess, but it was one that has been mentioned in the other replies.
