It's possible it was a fissure in the rectum that broke or hemorrhoids. Neither one is extremely serious. This happens to people all the time. Especially if you have IBS, because you have more irritation in that area. for now use preparation H suppositories twice daily to take down the inflammation. Your doctor will do a rectal examination and tell you what has been going on.

It could be a multitude of things. I have ulcerative colitis and that causes blood in the stool. As does hemmoroids.

If the blood is almost black or very very dark in color you need to get to the dr immediately. If it is bright red, you should be ok with waiting but I would not.

The dr will do a rectal exam and if he/she finds blood in the stool they will most likely order a colonoscopy to find the cause. (the prep is worse than the actual test).

If you do have UC, stress is a big factor in the symptoms. As is diet.

Do some research online - webmd is a good starting point.
Good luck.

The best thing to do especially when it comes to medical stuff is never try to play self doctor or prepare. i mean come u are act like its an impending death or something. Blood in the stool dont always mean something is wrong. If havent gone in awhile u can tear a blood vessel or if u wipe to hard same type of thing can happen but ur basically asking ppl on yahoo wait till u see ur doctor

Going to the doctor is a good idea.

It may turn out to be a hemorrhoid, that has burst. You may have been straining to have a bowel movement and that can cause hemorrhoids, small blood vessel to pop out, and then burst. This can happen to almost any one.
Or it may be from a polyp, that has burst. Polyps can be inside the colon area, they are a type of growth and they should always be checked by a doctor. Doctors usually remove them to make sure that they are not cancerous. Often most are not.

But it is always best to have this checked out by your doctor so it will ease your mind, so that you will know exactly what is happening.

From the information you provided, it sounds like just a small break in the surface of the skin surrounding your anus. It happens when that area gets wiped a lot. I'm assuming that the blood spot was about a mm or so large and bright red.

You have seen it very scanty, that to, only once, then after there was no sign and symptom at all mean, the blood like colour or the thread you had seen might have some undigested particle of some veg or fruit or peel of fruit or some thing like that.
So, you do not have to worry at all.

you just probably ripped a skin tissue which usually happens to those who have ibs or constipated (often if the stool is too dry or large).

It will heal in time.

You are probably right, its related to your ibs...if your ibs-c (irritable bowel syndrome-constipated), not ibs-d (ibs-diarhea)
