ebay is a good place because you might be able to get more than book value. another way to go is if you can find a card shop or a card dealer at a flea market and cultivate a friendship. i have a guy i buy cards from that uses the book on all the cards he sells to me but he usually sells me the cards for half the book or more than half the book. i have seen him buy cards from guys and he seems to be honest. if you can find someone like that you would definitely be safer than ebay because you know you are getting paid. just do some research before you sell so you cannot be manipulated. if you seem like you have some knowledge about your cards, dealers won't be so quick to try to rip you off.

You have got to be kidding me! Some people are so lucky. 1869! Unreal. And oh yeah, I would sell the card if I had it, but really that card needs to be in a museum. But I'd take as much money as I could get for it. I mean the Honus Wagner card sells for a million in decent shape.

Ebay would be the best place. Card stores will give you about 5x less than they will sell them for. (which means there would be a market for anything they would be willing to buy).

What kinds of cards are they? What years?

If by "old" you mean circa 1988-93, don't hope for much. That was a time of tremendous overproduction. Even a Maddux rookie card isn't worth much.
