I think the Chiefs are making a huge mistake when Trent Green goes to Miami. I didn't say "if" because it will happen. Either the Chiefs will pull off a deal or will have to release him. Trent Green has been an incredibly consistant pro bowl style quarterback, and he has a concussion last year and comes back and doesn't play as well. The Chiefs decide to throw him under the bus after one bad year. I guarantee you a healthy Trent Green is better than Brodie Croyle or Damon Huard. I say why not keep Trent Green a couple more years and let Brodie learn from him. I just think the Chiefs are handling this all wrong. What do you think?

I think the Chiefs are stupid for hanging him out to dry...Brodie Croyle is not ready, and Damon Huard was the ORIGINAL replacement for Dan Marino in Miami...Obviously, they didn't think he was working out...and the Dolphins are stupid for not making a deal for Green...Culpepper is not the answer for the Dolphins...

Trent Green is one of my favorite players on my favorite team. He's a great, very underrated QB that still has 2-3 good years left in him. I do think Green needs to move on, though. The team is in a rebuilding phase on offense, especially with the line - and possibly in the backfield in the near future. You're absolutely right that a healthy Trent Green is better than Croyle or Huard, but there isn't much more that Green can do for the Chiefs. The fact of the matter is that Brodie Croyle is the future QB of the franchise. I don't want to see KC in the same situation as Green Bay, where you have an aging QB that you have to start because of his status with the team and his salary while the guy that was drafted to replace him sits on the bench indefinitely. They have handled the situation completely wrong by not being direct with him on what they're going to do. They've told him he can compete for the starting job if they don't trade or release him and that's an absolute slap in the face. Personally, I think Peterson and Herm (who I can't stand as head coach) need to stop jerking him around. He deserves better. They need to get that trade done - if Peterson has to release him and we get nothing for him I'm going to be super pissed - so both the Chiefs and Green can move on.

The Dolphins have no need to budge from their position. With Daunte Culpepper likely going to be healthy for TC & having Cleon Lemon and John Beck in the fold, they *could* muddle their way through this season with what they have at QB. So if the Chiefs are waiting for the Dolphins to up their offer, they're in for a long wait.

The Chiefs are stuck either trading Green for a 6th rounder, or releasing him with no compensation. The way things are going, Green is going to be cut.

Are the Chiefs handling this situation right? No. Green could restructure his contract or get an extension that would make his cap hit far more manageable. Huard is good enough to start while Croyle learns, but, if healthy, Green could take them farther than any of the above. The Chiefs' window of opportunity to make a run for it all is limited, so I'd humbly suggest that they give Green a cap-friendly extension, if that's still possible.

But if the Chiefs want to get anything for a 37-year-old Green, they need to have more realistic expectations about what they can get in return & take what they can get.

And there's something to be said for how Green is being treated here. Other players on that team & around the league are paying attention to how the Chiefs' organization treats its players, and that will affect which free agents will want to sign with them in the future (not to mention how hard the current players want to play for a team with management that might mistreat them down the road.)

The problem here lies with Herm Edwards. I do not like his coaching style at all, he seems to throw players under the bus a lot, especially QB's. Green goes out and granted Huard did well and green wasn't even having a great season before but now Herm thinks he can do without green, and the GM agrees. lets lose the big contract and keep the smaller ones and move forward. Miami will not budge on the picks it is giving up and I think KC wanted more than green is worth. Green is getting old and has maybe 2-3 years in him, but his best years are behind him. I think he should stay in KC and help Brodie too but take a pay cut, if he doesn't then KC will cut him and green will become the next Kurt Warner teaching young guys as he starts 5-7 games a year.

I agree that they're handling it all wrong
they're making him stay there even though everybody knows he'll either be traded or released.

I don't think they're making a mistake though.
They won't play as well this year without him as their QB
but he's set to make 7mil (I think) and he is 37(again....I think)
he won't be around for too much longer
he probably isn't a 7 million dollar QB anymore, although other than last year post-concussion, he has thrown for a ton of yards and played really well his whole career.

They had to try and get SOMETHING for him, but I think they're being stubburn now....The Dolphins know he'll eventually be released.

HOWEVER, holding onto him this long leaves open the option of trading him to another team in case of an emergency situation
say a Ben Roethlisberger gets in a motorcycle accident (just throwing it out there) and can't play for the first 6 weeks of the season
All of a sudden, that team (Steelers or others) could be hurtin at the QB spot and Trent Green has a much higher value than a 6th round pick.....

SO, in conclusion, i know it seems like I keep jumping the fence, but I just like talking about both sides of the argument.

As a Dolphin fan, I hope we get him soon.
And i hope he can teach John Beck a thing or two before he rides off into the sunset.

I think both the Chiefs and Dolphins will be worse off because of the deal.

CHIEFS- Let's see...Green was going to be their QB for the next what, 5 years, until he gets his head jolted. And now, after a promising season by Huard, a wandering veteran, they want to replace Green. I, like you, think that Green would've had a better season than Huard had he stayed healthy. The Chiefs actions in trying to trade him means either 1) they think Green isn't as talented as the others or 2) they know that Green's injury will severely limit his abilities in the future.

DOLPHINS- I know Daunte Culpepper didn't do anything, but maybe he deserves another shot. He was largely considered one of the top 3,4 QBs a couple years ago, and he's still young-ish. It may be time to look at his group of receivers, and see what's up with them. Chris Chambers, after a nice '05-'06, did almost nothing. Culpepper is probably even more talented than Green, although they're both amazing. Miami is going after his because Cam Cameron wants a new face to start off his coaching tenure, and he sees an under-appreciated talent in Green, but he needs to give Culpepper one more shot.

The Chiefs will do what they are really good at....throw all their brains in the trash, play a great season to make the playoffs....and then....choke. They typically do handle stuff wrong. I'm sure they'll toss Trent to another team and he'll be the one to break their back by playing a stellar season.

On the other hand, maybe they want to start a rebuilding process and not depend on an older quarterback that could get knocked out after a hefty sack.

As a Dolphins fan, i do no longer hate Trent green, yet i think of that's an identical tale, distinctive person. verify out how large Daunte Culpepper replaced into at one element. He replaced into interior the best of his occupation and replaced right into an impressive quarterback. Then his harm set him a techniques returned, and he nevertheless needless to say hasn't healed yet. Trent green has finished good issues for Kansas city, yet I do basically no longer think of he's on an identical point anymore, a mix of his concussion and his age. He basically can not circulate an identical way anymore. i do no longer think of he's the answer to the Miami quarterback situation- I see if truth be told an identical situation repeated as quickly as extra beneficial than what replaced into finished with Daunte - Miami basically thinks that they might magically take older and injured quarterbacks and have them lead their suffering offfense to a identify... particular experience facilitates inspite of the shown fact that it is not each little thing. So Trent green replaced right into a solid quarterback little question, yet i think of he's on the downhill and could no longer make mark to the place he as quickly as replaced into.

Green is a great quarterback. For his sake, I hope he retires. That was a wicked head shot he took - I wouldn't want to see him permanently injured.
