In Windows XP, Sometimes the volume controller is hidden, try clicking the arrow in the taskbar.

you found the setting to "show volume control on taslbar" in the sound card settings?

- check that your taskbar settings doesn't have "hide inactive icons" checked
- check manufacturers website for patches for this. Win98 used to have lots of problems and there were many patches. Not sure about XP needing the same patches, but you should check the downloads for your model and machine type.

Did you place a Check mark in the box and then click OK? Some times people make changes and then click the X in the upper right, which cancels changes made.

Be sure to click OK when making changes to set them in the configurations files.
