The whole McCann saga is an example of mass emotional frenzy, everyone getting upset and even aggressive, for all the wrong reasons, very few people actually talking about poor little Maddie anymore, only the parents. Mob mentality could be so many people's overt aggresion towards them, reinventing them as villains without knowing more about them than they see on TV or read in the papers.

The movie with Jodie Foster is called, The accused. Mob mentality, is not always on a hysteria level. Can be as simple as choosing the same name brand clothing as the rest of the group. As for the emotional frenzy, that is what it is, emotionally driven, something that instills a sense of fear or anger at a personal level and can become more and more heightened as you see others feel the same way acting out of an extreme level of emotion. That is why you will see allot of peaceful protests get violent.

Theory no, facts yes. People have a fight or flight mechanism built right in. So, they either fight or run. Jodie Foster did a movie in which she was raped on a pin ball machine while others watched and egged the offenders on, that is illegal, it's called inciting someone to commit a felony. This was a true story and after some fighting with the DA they were convicted of rape-the ones egging it on were also convicted.
