The short answer is yes, if you buy it retail and not an OEM version drive. There are other free software programs out there for "Light scribing" with additional patterns etc., be forewarned, it takes almost twice as long to lightscribe a disk as it does to burn it. Then after lightscribing a disk, you must restart the computer to burn another regular DVD at a speed high than 4X. Large patterns take a LONG time to lightscribe. Don't buy the drive for the lightscribe feature only, you will be disappointed. The media is also expensive the cheapest I've found is:

Unlikely, you will have to find it elsewhere. Burning a graphical image on the label side of a LightScribe CD or DVD is a very different process than burning files onto the data side of the disc, so it requires some special LightScribe-aware software.

Hewlett-Packard's LightScribe effort has always relied on third-party offerings, and HP apparently tapped MicroVision Development early on to add LightScribe support to their SureThing CD/DVD Labeler software. In fact, a stripped-down version of SureThing, called "SureThing 4 SE", is provided as a free download on the official HP LightScribe website.
Another early entrant was Nero, who announced they would be adding LightScribe support back in early 2005. LightScribe support started with a downloadable addition to Nero 6 shortly thereafter.

Other sources of LightScribe labelling software include: Droppix Label Maker Deluxe, WinDVD Creator 2, NTI's JewelCase Maker 5, various Roxio products, various Sonic products, and (for the Mac!) disclabel (from SmileOnMyMac).

Possibly, but probably not. The software can be downloaded FREE from http://www.lightscribe.com/
There is a registry change that has to be made to enable LightScribe. The genuine software from this source will do this, others may not.
I just did this yesterday!

All retail (ie in a box) drives will have the software with it. Even most oem drives (no box) will have software with it.
