So I think we've pretty well settled that the pink film on the shower curtain is mold, but does anyone know what species of mold that is?

Your pink stain is actually a "biofilm" composed of many different species of bacteria, molds, and other microorganisms.

this film is a build up of residues from shampoos and soaps as well as a few bacteria. It is not mold. The best solution, which would eliminate the need for the question, is to wash the shower curtain on the gentle cycle with bleach and detergent. It will be like new. If it is junk, about ten bucks or so will get you a new shiny one. Personally, I wash mine about twice a year.
