I'm guessing you mean $3500?
Go for a Mac Pro. It's the only machine out there that will let you run Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux and UNIX. There are lots of engineering firms that are Mac-only, and some high end software that's UNIX-only, etc. A Mac will give you the versatility you need.

Hello:
35000? Is that $35000 US Dollars? You could buy a super server for that kind of money. Did you mean $3500 US dollars or do you have 35000 of another currency?
Almost every major computer manufacturer now has a decent notebook PC in the $600 to $800 price range that would be great for an engineering student. If you also play PC games, especially the intense graphics games, you will need more than $600. I suggest looking at DELL. And if you don't need Windows, I suggest looking at the DELL machines with Ubuntu Linux preinstalled. Unless you absolutely have to have Windows for some reason, Linux is an excellent choice for engineering students and professionals.
Cheers!

if its 35000 then you could afford a workstation with quad cpu config with all the harddrives you want and quad sli.
if you mean 3500 then desktop wise you can afford whatever you want especially if you build it yourself(which is suggested over brandname)
laptop wise i like dell for major brand, but there are lots of smaller manufacturers like asus, ibuypower, etc.
newegg.com has a lot of the smaller brands on it.
i am an engineering student as well and i was told to have a laptop for school but so far i havent actually needed a laptop, you really just need a desktop.

Go for a HCL Beanstalk. They have some wonderful dual core options within that price that too with a 19" Wide Screen TFT Monitor. It also has a DVD Super Multi, the all new Vista Home Premium and some cool software to go with it. Go for it baby, and you will never repent.

some dealer do not provide whole package that comes with branded pc.

Wow. If you have that kind of money to spend that is great! You can look to find a system with a large hard drive and plenty of ram for your engineering projects.
Go to the manufacture websites at gateway or at dell and custom build your system.
Good luck
