i just bought a 2001 600 ninja and i just noticed that the mph guage is not working at all, the rpm and every gauge is working but no mph. can anyone give me some help on finding out how to fix this problem, this is my first bike and dont know a lot about them. thanks!

Maybe a broken speedometer cable.
Unscrew the cable from the gauge.
Remove the cable from the speed drive at the F wheel.
Remove the inner cable to see if it's broken.

unscrew the cable from the speedo, the inside cable should be square, not rounded, attemt to twist it, it should not turn, if it does, unscrew the cable from the front hub and see what shape the cable is in, if the ends look good, screw the cable back into the speedo and get a drill and put the inside cable in the chuck and put the drill in reverse and push a little on the cable to make sure it's seated in the speedo and turn it on, the speedo should register, if not it's bad.

Yes , you need to be moving , it doesn't work while on the kick stand :))...
