Let's contrast the difference. I hope to get a good mix of both groups.

i quit when i feel i can't do it anymore, when i lost all hope and fear comes over me.

i succeed when i think i can succeed. when i have the determination to go on, or i know that i can't quit. i keep in mind, "once a quiter always a quiter."

I've quit every marriage I've ever been in due to domestic violence. I try to make them work out. I tried to be the person they wanted me to be. I just couldn't be perfect enough. Good enough. I kept messing things up. Making them upset. Taking my bath before his shower. Eating dinner at 5 like he said he'd be home but I got "in trouble" for eating...should of waited for HIM. Why did I quit? Why did I quit anything? It got to be too much for me to handle. Too hard to continue doing it. So I quit. Overwhelming issues that I couldn't handle every day...quitting seemed to be the answer all three times. I feel I don't quit soon enough. I wait too long to quit. The only thing I've succeeded was motherhood...I didn't give up. I didn't quit mothering my kids. No matter how hard it gets I keep doing it. No matter how much trouble they give me...I continue mothering them. Being their mom and not their friend. Quiters never succeed...or do they?

.....You gotta know when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em...

I quit when I no longer care about the outcome, or when I know there's nothing more I can do...when further effort is futile.

The key is knowing when to persist. The other day I was trying to move a great big rock. I had failed many times on previous occasions, trying different strategies. But the other day I kept at it and was able to maneuver it on a dolly and move it by myself. It's kind of like a prize fighter who receives a devastating blow that brings him to his knees...should he get up and continue fighting? Or is the contest lost and further effort could be a total waste, or worse - damaging...the key is knowing this crucial fact.

So persistence is one of the key's to success. So are courage, composure, honesty, integrity, effort, initiative, rationality, creativity, responsibility, compassion...and other personal attributes. Not to mention knowledge, skill, motivation, resources, relationships...

...I personally succeed because I don't quit on anything usually......I do know when it's time to give up and abandon on a particular issue or idea though.....( it's called agreeing to disagree with people folks...and it's NOT life threatening stuff either ) Usually if I abandon an idea with someone?...it's because the issue generally belongs to them. It's not my decision to make decisions for others really....it's up to them to fix their own crap...undoubtedly! Does this sorta kinda make sense for you reasonably?

Sometimes you quit because it no longer makes any sense to continue onward. Why waste your time and energy on a thing that's already been accomplished?
Success, unfortunately, I can't tell you about.
