They don't always get off of criminal charges but they do get off easy most of the time. It may have to do with the fact that they can afford a good lawyer.

they don't (see www.thesmokinggun.com for many examples) but they do tend to have the resources to hire good attorneys which allows them to have a stronger defense to charges brought against them.

Because they use their notoriety and connections to their advantage and have enough money to hire really good lawyers.
