My mom said it took her stomach 6 months after she had me and my brother to go back down to it's normal pre pregnancy size! 6 MONTHS!!! No way........I'm wondering, this is my first baby and I'm not so overly huge that I feel like a lardo and I've only gained 20 pounds at 34 weeks. My question is, when does your stomach return to normal after the baby is born? I don't want a bowl of jelly for 6 months!

I had some fat on my stomach before baby, but I'd like it to at least go back down to what it normally was before I got pregnant, is this possible and how long will it take?

I've gained about 23 pounds at 29 weeks, and will probably be at weight gain of 32-33 lbs at delivery. My mom said when she was pregnant it took her about thirty days to fit back into her old marine corps uniform, but she only gained 30lbs. A lot of factors will determine how soon you lose the weight 1) how much weight you gained
2) what you eat after giving birth (lay off pizza and cupcakes for awhile)
3) how much you exercize
4) your body structure (heredity is important in weight loss/gain).

Generally women who gained sixty pounds will take a long time to lose the weight. A more important factor is if you get pregnant again. The longer you wait (at least six months) for the second pregnancy the better off you'll be in the long run.

Lots of women love being pregnant, but the weight gain is never pleasant or even appreciated! Women know they must gain weight in order to support their growing babies, but most women have in the back of their minds when they are going to begin their weight loss program and how they are going to accomplish it. Lots of new moms wonder how long it will take to get her pre-pregnancy body back after pregnancy. The answer really depends on each and every woman.

Women who gain the recommend 25-35 pounds during pregnancy will not have a difficult time losing the weight afterwards. That is because once the baby is born, most moms lose about 12 pounds. This includes the placenta, baby, extra blood and fluids, and the like. Then, the job of losing 12-20 pounds looms ahead. However, moms who breastfeed will burn significantly more calories on a daily basis than moms who do not breastfeed. This also helps the uterus constrict and become smaller faster. So, breastfeeding moms will find they lose weight quicker and some say the weight just melts off.

Of course, during this time frame women should be eating well and following an exercise routine. If the new mom is doing this she can expect to lose a pound or two per week. So, within a few months the new mom can have her old figure back. Of course, she may not be shaped the same way as before and she may have some stretch marks to show, but getting back to her old weight wont be too much of a problem.

On the other hand, women who gain more than the recommended amount of weight will need to work harder and longer at the weight loss. This means keeping up with a healthy diet and exercise until all the excess weight has been lost. An average of a pound or two per week is normal, so determine how much baby weight you gained, and then subtract a 4-8 pound loss per month. This will give you an idea of how long it will take you to lose the weight. Always remember, though, that if you become lazy and eat a poor diet you may actually gain weight rather than lose it. Dont let this happen to you. Stay focused and you will lose that baby weight!

Everyone's body is different. Just because you are thin and lose the weight doesn't neccesarily mean you'll still look like you did before. All the ab muscles get stretched out during pregnancy. It takes about 6 weeks for your uterus to return to normal size. How long it takes the weight to come off and the muscles to tone back up is entirely up to you. I would start now by doing kegels (These are exercises for the pelvic floor muscles, the ones you use to control the flow of unrination). This will also help you during pushing when the baby comes. Ater the baby is born, make sure you eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of whole grains, lean protein, fruits, veggies, low fat dairy, and omega 3 fats. These help you lose weight, especially belly fat.. After your 6 weeks check up if your doc says it's ok, start doing abdominal exercises. The plank is a great one and is a lot easier than a sit up. I would aim for 30 mins of low impact cardio most days and 2-3 days of strength training a week. Walking is probably the best cardio. Put the baby in the stroller and walk around the neighborhood. It will be a fun outing for both of you. I would say that with a little work you should be back to you prebaby body (or at least close, some of us never get it back completely) in about 8 to 12 weeks.
Don't forget to enjoy that new bundle of joy! If you never get your body back, it is all worth it. Kids are the greatest thing ever. Good luck!

It is different for everyone, but 6 months does not sound like too long. You were pregnant for 9 months. You can't expect to loose the weight immediately. Plus it will take a lot of work to get your stomach muscles back as firm as they were before. Unless you plan to workout very hard, you will probably have a bowl of jelly for quite sometime. After 10 year my stomach is still kind of flabby, but I'd rather spend time with my family than in the gym and my stomach was kind of flabby when I got pregnant so I guess it doesn't really bother me or my husband..

It is different with each and every person. It depends on how much you gain, if you exercise regularly during and after the baby, and whether or not you breast feed your baby.

Everyone knows the saying that when your pregnant your suppose to eat for two. Well this just isn't true. The truth is you only need an additional 300 calories per day.

It has also been proven that if your exercise regularly it will help you during labor and help you to shed those pounds afterwards.

Studies have also shown that breast feeding aids in the retraction of the uterus. Also keep in mind that if you breast feed your baby will be using a lot of your nutrients causing you to lose weight.

Good luck with getting your body back to normal.

You really can't count on any specific time frame, as we all know every person is different. Also, even if you go back to your pre-pregnancy weight, or below, your clothes may still fit differently. You may need a larger size to accomodate larger hips, etc. You may always have a little saggy pooch, low down. My mother in law is a work out-aholic. She works out religiously with a trainer and always has. She had two children and while she's a thin, small person, she could never get rid of that last little pooch. She finally had a tummy tuck to remedy the situation. Actually, so did two personal trainers I know. Both had children and no matter how hard they worked out, could not lose that little pouch. Best of luck.

Every body is different and there lots of variables. If you have to a C-section it could take longer to get down. Breastfeeding definitely helps drop the weight (I did and was smaller than my pre-pregnancy at 9 mo post and I gained b/t 50-60lb). Also, it will depend on how active you are and what you eat. It doesn't sound like you've gained tons so it shouldn't take you too long. It does take awhile though for everything to go back and it will never be exactly the same as before.

I doubt your going to gain a total of 30lbs but thats nothing, you can lose that fast. Some people just gain so much they cant lose it without lots of work. It takes up to 6 weeks for your stomache ligimants to go back on its own but I was back to my original weight after 2 weeks with all 3 of mine. I gained only a little, like you.

awnestly! you won't know till after the babys born. it really depends if you start exersising right away, and all kinds of other stuff. my dietition says that average is a year to get back to pre-pregnancy wieght. if you don't acheive that in 6 months like your mom did, don't be upset with yourself, remember that you have to loose wieght the healthy way. talk to a dietition after your baby is born. that should help you get on track right a way and help you get to where you want to be. good luck!
