he probably put his head in the direction he rolled over, it's the heaviest thing on their body and pushed his weight that way.. Was he on a soft surface? that may have helped.. or maybe you just have a genius! Congrats!

There is a wide range of normal for babies. My daughter was a 10.5 pounder and she lifted her head up and had pretty decent neck/head control a few hours after she was born. She could roll over 'sometimes' at 3 weeks, but not consistently. She was just plump and muscular. Congrats on your little rolly athlete!

I understand where you are coming from. My little boy who is now 2 years old first rolled over at 5 days old. He would just use that little leg to push himself from back to belly. The problem was that he could not get back to his back. My pediatrician reccomended that I watch him and make sure that if he did it that I rolled him back over to his back so that he didnt suffocate in his bed. At that point he wasnt even holding his head up on his own so it was very scary. We first thought it was a fluke but he kept doing it. It wasnt until he was about 4 months old that he could make it back over to his back. So just keep an eye on him and make sure that he doesnt stay on his belly too long
good luck :)

There is no normal when it comes to kids... the guidelines are just guidelines... if he rolled over, he rolled over. My son held his head up consistently at two weeks, but didn't roll over until almost 9 months...

That's when my kids started to roll over, but they did everything early. Hang on! It going to be a fast and bumpy ride if he's starting now. If he's rolling over, then its time to rethink the bassinet, the more mobile he gets the less safe it becomes. He will be able to puch up before you know it so make sure you don't trust him not to roll of or topple out of bassinets, changing tables etc.

Yes. There is no "normal" when it comes to babies. They all develop differently. My son rolled on his own very early. He lifted his head right after birth. It happens. Make sure you're careful where you put him now that you've seen his new skill.
