Once a person hits 200 pounds, they should seriously start looking inward and see what is going on with themselves that they would let themselves slowly die. I really do believe that. Not knocking on people who are obese; I once let myself get that way and stopped around 200 pounds and have worked myself slowly downward to normal since that time of realizing I was killing myself.

when my grandfather died he was over 600 pounds and i can tell you he did care he would lose the weight and gain it back over and over again how he got that way i don't know. i know obesity is a problem in our family and most of the worst have thyroid problems but if you look at the fattest of the fat in society they tend to be the poorest and they do not have the resources that you have to lose the weight and you can say walking is free but you do not know the PAIN that is caused by being over wheight and for some food is the only luxory they have and making good food more expensive has not been helping people who can't afford to go to the doctor can't afford to lose the wheight and are stuck in the status quo. proper health care is the key and with out money they are screwed

I completely agree. The other day I saw a woman who must've weighed 350 lbs. (seriously) at an all-you-can-eat joint with a plate piled higher than Mt. Everest and thought to myself "does she really not care about her health THAT much?". I felt so sorry for her, but at the same time I didn't because she was doing nothing about it. You would think as much as these people watch TV (and you know they do) that they would get the hint by now. Being that big and eating that way is unhealthy! Go for a walk! Get a bike! Do something people!

For some people I think it is because of the way they grow up; they get into a routine they're so used to that they can't shake it, or see that they need to change. For others it may be denial, and for some, laziness or maybe even that some don't see anything wrong. There are many different factors. I've avoided exercise for about 3 years since I had to do it at school, it's only probably seeing the effects of lack of exercise that I've really had to push myself to go.

Its very sad, I recently did a presentation on obese children in the U.S and not only are they sadfully overweight but it causes so many health issues usually leading 2 a stroke or heart failure. It's not the child's fault it's their parents.
It's as if the parents are to busy to cook but find time to pick up crap from Mc Donalds. Their killing their own child and dont even realize it =(

The food and drug and pharmaceutical industries have made sure they will always be in business by doing things to our food that cause this in people. some people are just more affected than others.
I'm not saying we totally can't help it, but our food supply, at least in the States, is not nearly as healthful as food supplies in other countries.

I think after they get to a certain weight, it seems almost impossible for them to lose any weight, let alone large amounts. I think food is comforting to many obese people too. It's a lot more complicated than it seems.

I suppose its a disease, an addiction just like alcohol or drugs. Its just that there are all these delicious things to eat in the world and resistance is difficult.
Just for the record I am athletic and toned!

well its hard to lose weight when ur that heavy in the first place. food can be an addiction for some people, they cant help themselves. also i dont think its fair to judge all people in the same way, some people have different metabolic rates, some people have medical conditions. they are not all lazy fat people.( please dont judge me on my name btw)
