A friend has had a couple of horrible calls accusing her boyfriend of cheating....but the caller has been non specific about who, when etc...just that he is cheating. 1st call the number was witheld, second was a text from a payphone. Who is it likely to be, any ideas on how to find out ? ( he absolutely denies having cheated and says it's a trouble maker)

In my experience, there's never any smoke without fire! Why would someone go to the trouble of making anonymous phone calls if it isn't true? Her boyfriend probably is cheating.

Tell your friend to log the time and date of the calls along with what was said,male/female,background noise, etc. Dial 1471 after each call,as they will slip up and forgot to hide their number at some point. After collecting a few calls in a diary with the info, contact her phone service provider and the police supplying all info you have. Next time the lovely caller telephones, tell them that you have kept a diary of their phone calls and turned it over to the police, who are investigating the phone records-so either identify themselves-or face the police showing up at their door.

Aside from those phone calls, does your friend distrust her boyfriend because of any behavior on his part?
If so, get a private investigator on the case.
Anonymous calls are made by either a troublemaker (and why would he have such an enemy? That question needs to be answered also.) or by a person too scared for some reason to come forward.

Two calls may not be enough to constitute stalking which would strengthen your case in asking BT to identify the number of the first call. Your friend should contact the police about these nuisance calls but I don't think two calls is enough to amount to an offence

Well, if the person has not withheld their number, you can press 1471 to see the number, or 1571 in case they have left a message. Also, you can buy some sort of system that my mams friend has got, and you set it up with your phone, and it doesn't let anyone ring the house who is withholding their number. Hope this helps.

In a situation like this, I'd let it go for now. People can't cover their tracks forever, you know? How do you send a text from a payphone, is that possible? They're making impossible to find out for obvious reasons, etiher they don't want to get in trouble and/or he's lying. But like I said, you'll find out sooner or later, things like this eventually come out.

How about if the person tells the caller - if the caller calls back - that she is cheating too, and so it's all right if the boyfriend cheats. That might shut the caller up.

No offense but rule of thumb with men who cheat is to deny deny deny everything even in the face of proof.

lol....I had some freaky chic do this to me the night before my love came home from deployment.....lol....

Tell the friend to simply not answer the call! Sheesh---just because the phone rings doesn't mean that you're obligated to answer it. That's the beauty of paying for something----whether it's your phone or your front door.........you don't HAVE TO answer it. ;)

If it from a home number you can contact BT or whomever your server is. They can block phone calls from certain numbers. ask them for more info. my friend did that and found the culprit, was her nephew. gud luk
