doesnt the liquid freeze and the CO2 that gives coke its fizz seperate from the liquid, as the liquid freezes it expands and the CO2 doesnt have anywhere to go cos the bottles sealed and hey presto the bottle blows up. if you reall;y wanna chill your coke fast by putting it in the freezer fine, just dont forget to take it out after an hour or so

I've done the samething you have to fill the icecube tray a little less than half full to avoid spillage.
water expands when you freeze it.
The water expands because of the hydrogen bonds between the one of the H's in one water molecule and the O in another. This causes the ice crystals to stack on top of each other and 'expand' the molecules can fit together better as liquid.

It sounds as though you didn't open the bottle or can before freezing it .

Water expands when frozen. The water in the Coke expanded, then it didn't have enough room in the bottle so it exploded.
