Nice play on Duba's words, lol. Things in America's school system are going too fast. Those children who can't keep up are not recieving the extra attention they need (and yes, I agree that some of the children are behind due to inattentive parents) and since Duba's "No Child Left Behind" campaign, schools are being pressed to go ahead and pass those students. The last generation produced some astounding minds-think of the amazing advances we have achieved, but I worry about this current generation.

That's a good question! I hope they are learning. Just remember, don't move to Germany and get your kids in the German school systems. I have been here since 2001 and both my daughters are in the German schools. Normally when a teacher calls in sick, the school gets a substitute, right? Not here in Germany. When a teacher calls in sick, the students are sent home. How's that for learning?

Part of the problem is the schools. But part of it is also that parents don't want to take responsibility for their children's education. We can't just shove them in a desk, pick them up at 3, and assume everything is fine in between. If they aren't learning what they should be, it is our responsibility to see that they do. So yes, some of our children "is" learning. But only those whose parents care enough to make sure they do.

I enjoye tha iorny of yo queschun, i work wit kids at a yuth cinter and a lot of them rite just like i am typing rite now the problim is that i have seen them get A+ on papers riting just like this. I don't know what has happind to the education system 2day to allow thm to rite like this and stil git good grades. They are not mentally retarded are lerning disabled but just undereducated i beleeve. its sad if you really think about it. Parents invest way too much trust in the education system and don't take much of their own responsibility for educating their own child. Maybe if parents took on a more proactive role and not blame teachers as much the education of our youth would finally be successful.

Do you mean...'are our children learning'...that gives pause to what we, as a society, have learned. Is it possible that our children can learn what we didn't? Yes, if we have the stamina to correct ourselves and keep learning..
