You need to run a sewer snake through the drain to the street main. It is most likely a tree root that has entered the line between the house and the street, but something else may be clogging the line. You can rent a drain snake from a hardware store or rental shop but if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself you might want to call a plumber.

You either need to rent a sewer auger or call a Plumber or Roto-rooter type service. Sewer augers have different heads that go onto the cable (larger cable than a drain snake) that can cut up to a 4" swath through the line. These are heavy duty machines so you may want to pay for the service to be done.

This sounds like the main is stopped up. i would call a plummer out for this. most store bougt snake will make a little hole in whatever is clogging it and may not even be long enoght to reach it. you have yourself the headache and just call someone out. Good Luck {:-)
