ok do you see the little speaker at the bottom right hand side of start bar right next to clock should be there if so click on it if not you could try control panel and look for sound

First of all...make sure it is not on mute in the volume control...I have the INSPIRON 6000 and on the front of the actual computer (not screen) I have buttons that are good for media. Press the mute button (to unmute it, just incase it is on mute). If it still doesn't work reboot your computer...I once had this problem but it sorted itself out. If this doesn't work send it back, it is new, and you should have a guarentee.

RTFM. Look up volume controls in the Dell User manual.
Still stuck, call Dell.
