Hi there,

Sheer curiosity made me join Y!A. I took Y!A very lightly, expecting the very least from this type of forums at first when I joined. As time passed by, I noticed with utter astonishment that most contributors -- if not all -- in this yahoo community were very sincere and dedicated -- both askers as well as answerers. Is it only my observation? Do you agree with me?
What might be the reason? Is it due to some yahoo policies and filtering rules? Or is it because most people in the world are help oriented? Any comment is most welcome!

Thanking you in advance for your time, patience and kind cooperation.

i guess that due to the nature of the forums, answering questions, there are only three types of people that come here.

1) those looking for one off questions to be answered.

2) those looking to answer questions and broaden their own knowledge through discussion and debate.

3) trolls and people who come here because they have nothing better to do.

as Yahoo! filters out the third kind of people, and the first kind of user doesn't stick around ( lest they move over to group 2 after being answered) that's why you'll see many people who are genuinely here to help / have genuine questions to sponsor debate.

unfortunatley, in certain forums you will find more of the third group of people than in others, however i think that in general, the Y!A community is very pleasent, and a great place to share your knowledge with the world.

It's a mixed bag, of course, but I think the good and sincere answers come from a true desire to help others. This is an easy and free way to help -- so it feels great! I love helping others, and I can leave for work each day with that feeling that I already did a good deed in the world.

The one time I asked a question, it was medical, and I was worried. The answers I received, all very serious, were enormously comforting and helped me await my test results with more calm.

This is a great community, which brings me to my final point. I think many are in search of community, and this provides it with little psychic investment.

I can only speak for myself, I enjoy helping people, when someone has a problem and I have the answer, I'm happy to help.

When there are ridiculous questions, like how do you feed your pet werewolf, most times I just don't answer, but there are times I will try to give a silly/funny answer.

My concern is I'm not always sure if I'm dealing with a child or someone who speaks English as a second language, so on those either I don't answer or I answer, but word it as if I'm speaking to a child, especially medical questions, I don't want to scare a kid and with my advice and I always advise them to see a doctor. So yes I take this very seriously.

Welcome to the Yahoo community.

Don't get too caught up in Y!A answers. There are trolls here and a lot of sarcasm along with the sincere, truthful efforts.

Just like in the rest of the universe, you must pay attention and choose carefully.

I think it is due to the fact that people love to share their knowledge. My expertise is in history and political study. Many of the questions that I respond to are loaded and offered with the goal of promoting an agenda. Consequently, many of my answers aren't all that appreciated. None-the-less, I feel compelled to offer up my knowledge anyway.

Some are sincere some aren't. Most people are human underneath that facade.
