Many people who've watched their interviews and followed the story closely say they suspect the McCanns of hiding something.

Are there credible grounds for such suspicion?

We've had this kind of drivel on Yahoo Answers before, and I have much the same response this time, too.

1. To the person who posted this question and the people who responded in a like-minded manner : anonymous libel is still libel. I wouldn't want to try to hide behind a logon name if I were you.

2. To the idiots who run this site and allow this trash to be posted : you are 'secondary producers' as defined in various acts and as publishers of the libellous statements are equally liable.

There has not been even the slightest shred of evidence that suggests the McCanns (or Robert Murat) had anything whatever to do with Madeleine McCann's disappearance. Anyone who would like to make such a suggestion should first show the courage of their convictions by affixing their name and contact details to their email, second indicate what evidence they have to back up their suggestions and third, look up the case of the late Sally Clark.

Oh, it's easy to be a smartarse. Harder to back it up, though.

i think alot of people think that something is not right, but that might have alot to do with the fact that this happened in Portugal, and like everyone knows by now, the rules regarding investigations are different there. (like they can not release any info to the public while the case is still live????!!!!!) and nothing seems to add up. I think maybe the reactions of the parents could be to do with the fact that they feel frustration towards how slow the investigation is going and there might be laws in place to stop them from speaking about any new leads they have or need.
I think the British police should get involved at some point, the quicker the better in my view. If the parents have something to hide it will come out eventually. But, i do not know the in's and outs of this, and so i would not make judgement in public as i believe that it is wrong and nothing short of gossip, and if i was in that situation i would want help not slating. I have my suspicions about what happened to little Maddie, but i would not put them on here.
And i hope she is found safe and sound very soon.
God bless these children who go missing.

PROTECT OUR CHILDREN RIGHTS TO BE SAFE, NOT THE PAEDOPHILES RIGHT TO ANONYMITY!!!!!

They checked their children every half hour. Then it became every hour. Then there were reports in the Portugese newspapers from the wait staff that said they never checked at all till Kate looked.

Kate burst in to the restaurant saying 'Theyve taken her'. Why did she assume she was kidnapped when she was left in an unlocked room? Also they have 2 daughters, when she said 'theyve taken her' how is Gerry supposed to know who she's talking about.

They said the shutters were forced, this was denied by both the police and staff.

Her Aunt said the apartment was a mere 30 yards away when in fact it was over 100 yards.

They set up a fund, but keep quiet about the fact its not a charity at all and is simply a limited company meaning they can do what they like with the funds.

They call the fund 'no stone unturned'. Not once have they physically looked for her. Instead they are busy working out which soundtracks they should play on top of footage of Maddy.

So far the money raised has been spent on a 'comprehensive legal team'. Do you think when people were donating, they were hoping that paying for lawyers fees was top of the agenda?

There are a lot of discrepencies!

Chris B - Fancy posting your details first, after all, it would make you a coward if you didnt.

They went out at 7pm, they said they were checking every 15/30 mins but its been proved they never checked between 9.10pm and gone 10pm as they don't know what time she was snatched which pours scorn on the assertions they have always made that they checked frequently. The restuarant owner said right from the start they never left the table all night like they said. Why does the wife always look so scared of the husband. Why when the media start asking questions he gets uppetty and walks away. Why were they paid for the News of the World Interview on Sunday and not the money donated to the Maddelline Fund? 2 Doctors who knew more about leaving small children alone one a GP who sees child accidents in the surgery every day left 3 babies unattended in a strange place with the patio doors left open that led on to a swimming pool, and a child snatcher just happened to be passing and chose to nip in on the off chance and steal the little girl. Its the stuff of a hollywood movie not real life. Its about time the police pulled them both apart for questionning then I bet their stories will fall apart. If you had nothing to hide and were a responsible parent would you not do everything to co-operate with every authority. More like they are covering their own backs and don't want to incriminate themselves. They are very clever make no mistake about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions hence an open forum. If you don't like everyone's opinions being aired you should not come on to these type of boards. As for libelous it is only so if its not true. Given that the timings and facts have come from the Portugese Police you would think that they had checked their stories before the newsagencies published it. Given the libelous aspects Things don't add up and everyone is entitled to voice their opinion whether good or bad. Never before has their been so much suspicion centered on a missing child's parents. There is no smoke without fire and they should be thoroughly investigated if only to ensure that they are blameless. If you have nothing to hide why not submit yourself for a police interview?

If the UK police have been doing their homework these past 3 weeks then they might hve a surprise for the McCanns when they do EVENTUALLY return home.Only time will tell our suspicions are credible or not.
To Helena.... the McCanns have aleady acknowledged that they don't think Maddy is in Portugal so why don't they come back to the Uk ? there is just as much chance of her being here as there is her being in the rest of Europe. What are they going to do ,travel around for the next 12 months until they have visited all the world?

For me it's a gut instinct.

How can you be so calm when your child is missing?

Would you have the presence of mind and clarity enough to write a full account of your day and post it on a website?

Would you leave your other two children with childcare when it wasn't good enough before?

How can you sit in a church praying when others are out looking for your child?

Why wouldn't you physically join in the search?

Why would you hinder the investigation by lying to the police about when you checked on your kids.

Why would you try to cover your own back by doing so?

Why could you not just admit that you were wrong to do what you did?

Why would you go through painfull IVF to have the children you've always wanted just to go and neglect them?

Why would you go on a family holiday when you have no intention of spending time with your kids?

Why would you put your own needs above those of your children?

and finally....

How do you explain to your children why you weren't there to protect them?

I hope they are not hiding anything that would hurt or endanger their child. SOme of the things said in reply to this question are maybe little harsh and over suspicious. These people are experiencing worst possible nightmare for any parent. If they are not behaving in usual ways that is understandable to me. The fund established does not have to be a charity - perhaps it is easier to use the funds quickly as necessary if they are set up in a different way. We live in strange times of reality TV and fame for the sake of fame. Maybe that is twisting our view about a couple who are now living in public's glaring view for 4 weeks.
I agree there are questions to be asked but i find it very hard to believe that they have a directed role their daughter's disappareance. What is to be gained by it? What is the motive?

I cant say for certain, one way or the other....but something is certainly not right......from the day the poor kid was taken, something about this whole case has bothered me - when/if it's resolved (hopefully, happily), I think some very nasty little skeletons are going to tumble out of a lot of closets....

I think it would be much better if every one just kept their assumptions to themselves, there is no evidence either way, all people are doing by pushing blame and making up storeys with no credibility is of no use to anyone, least of all the most important person involved, the victim.
