iv been told two speices of tortoise dont mix. that in later life they will start fighting even if they are brought up togeher. i wanted to put a leopard tortoise in with my hermann. if not a leopard a spur thighed. is this true?

Yes, why don't you just get another of the same kind. That will be fun and more safe for your little friends.

It is rarely a good idea to mix species, and never a good idea to mix them from different ecosystems- each species group develops parasites, germs, etc. that it is fairly resistant to that a new species is totally susceptible to.

You also do not really want to mix small and large tortoises- even assuming you REALLY want the headaches associated with the giants like Sulcatas and Leopards (do your research well before you buy either of these!)

(FYI- The African Sulcata Tortoise is called the 'Spurred Tortoise' "Geochelone sulcata". The 'Spur-thighed' is the other name for the Greek Tortoise "Testudo graeca".)

We are usually better off with a 'herd' of the same species or closely related species (in your case, Greeks, Iberians, Egyptians, etc.) than we are trying to deal with the headaches associated with mixing generas.
