Worked 40 years and 4 months for the Post Office...

Well, I don't know, might work part time or something when I'm 60, but we're the first generation that will need to work past 65, I bet by the time I get to retire the retirement age will be extended to 70

We'll it depends how you have worked through out your life and how much of your monthly income you keep in your retirement fund.

Anyway I think the best time for early retirement would be 45-50. But any way it depends from person to person.

In my case I would not work untill the end coz you also have to keep some time for other life activities after 45.

My husband can retire after 30 years service and he will be 50 in 2009. I will be 41 then and we aim to have a "gap year" ....they didn't exist when we left school!
Hopefully after a year of travelling to the US we will be able to return to UK and retire then or at worst work a bit when we need money but ditch the careers.

I retired at 58. I don't regret it at all.I am now 75 and the years since retirement have been the best of my life.I can afford to do more or less what I like when I like. It's great. There was so much to do I wondered where I ever got the time to go to work.

Actually, my retirement started at about 49. Actually, I went into semi-retirement, which is our goal for my husband and I. By semi-retirement, I mean we will work part time, maybe at a seasonal business, do taxes and other temporary work.

I think that is the best of both worlds. You stay in the swing of things, but still have lots of time to travel. Plus, you aren't destitute.

I'll work till I drop. Everyone I know who is retired is bored out of their minds most of the time.

As a street performing clown , I will probably be retired if police start to enforce certain laws and new laws that are floating around. Also , as a juggler ,if I worked until I dropped,I wouldn't be working for very long at all.

None of the above! I beat the system and retired in 1975 when I was 52 years old.
