It really depends on the condtion and size (one was dug up around here a handful of years ago on a golf course, that was cool).

As far as cost goes it mostly depends on the demand. If there is just one facility that wants it chances are the price will go low (but still a good chunk of change), however if there are several groups and perhaps even some rich private collectors that want it, it will drive the price up.

If I was him I would stay away from Ebay. However if he does not get a good offer an auction is a good idea, just more of a high class auction rather than Ebay.

I expect there are many Museums that would be interested. Not sure eBay would be the right way to go though.
