Yes, there is such a thing as witches. You just met one.

For the record, no, not all witches are Wiccan. Not all Wiccans are witches (that is, practitioners of witchcraft). Witchcraft is *not* a religion, it is a spirituality. Wicca *is* a religion.

No, one cannot "gain" these "powers". One already has them, although some will naturally be stronger than others. For example, I am clauiraudient, but I do not have very good scrying abilities. The "weaker" powers have to be practiced diligently if one wants to utilize them. Just because they are "weaker" does not mean one will "never" be able to do them.

It's a matter of becoming aware of these powers as well, and learning to use them properly. The intent behind the use of power is the key to success.

Furthermore, power is a relatively misunderstood concept. If you're looking at the shock value of "controlling others", you're in for a great heartache. It will backfire. But... if you are truly seeking self-control, self-regulation, and owning the mark of true freedom, you have found the duirwaigh.

It depends on what you mean by witches. There are real Witches now who can cast spells, do healings, and work with the natural energies around us all the time. Witchcraft can be a Religion, or many consider it more of a Craft, a way of life. I see it both ways, for myself.
I don't know if there are people who actually have powers like on the "Charmed" TV series, but I'm not willing to rule it out just because I have never met anyone who has such powers.

There have always been Witches, even through the "Burning Times"..
Some still wear black yes but that could be for many reasons..
Black is the colour of the Universe and is devoid of all colour..
There are Witches everywhere nowadays, you would never know as we don't have to prove who we are, sell our beliefs or any any other conception someone may have..

Whatever powers we have, or you think we have, or you don't believe we have, is irrelevant..
We live our lives our way regardless, I never worry about what I hear behind my back as I know something they don't..
To learn anything, you first must have a teacher...
Some learn from books, some join Covens, others even learn on-line..
The power I speak of is in us all, like everything, first you must find it then learn how to use it...
I am a real Witch, proud of the title...
Love and Light... BB.. )O(

For the 50th time, yes. I know some. I bet your "understanding" of a witch is NOT accurate, however. If you're expecting people to fly around on brooms & such, you're sadly mistaken.
To correct those who say Wicca is pre-christian, it was only invented in the 1950s. It is certainly NOT part of Celtic beliefs.

Witches can do things.

I fear the power you speak of is not the sort of power we can do things with.

We can't ride brooms, or fly.

We can harmonise with nature, attune to the spirits, bless the earth, help plants to grow, help animals, feel energies that arise from the earth, I can even call up the wind, I can hold off rain till I need to get inside. I haven't managed to work with fire yet. But a good friend of mine tells me a friend of hers can light a candle with her mind. It just takes a huge load of effort.

Is this the powers you wish to seek?? We can't control people or turn persons into toads etc etc.

Yes and it's something everybody is able to do if they could change the way they looked at the world around them. We are all Energy and we can all learn to connect with the Creator Energy. This will happen soon, as humanity wakes up and realises there are more things in heaven and earth than religion. We are all Divine Energy.

yes and there is even bloodlines that go back many generations. these powers are available to everyone some just have the natural ability to access them at will sometimes by accident as well while others must practice exercises to develope the ability to do things and it takes many years and great study to accomplish.

Witchcraft, for me, isn't about power. It's about understanding yourself. Controlling yourself. Deciding for yourself who you are, what you believe, what you want to accomplish, and the best means to accomplish your goals. Witchcraft can be about whatever you want it to be. Everyone has different values.

This may not be the view of other witches, but rather than seeing the world as created and ruled by a single god, for whatever purpose, I see gods as a part of me. Created by me, to help me.

If you want to learn more, go to the library.

Witchcraft is any religion created by white people before christianity was forced on them. So, you'll probably find different opinions in almost every book you read.

The short answer, Rachel, is yes.
The long answer is that there are all sorts of people who call themselves witches, many of whom are geniune, but the old saying goes ~ when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
Keep a look out.
