Adding DATA takes computer hard disk space - EMPTYING RECYCLE BIN ,where is the DATA eliminated ?

I add 1 GB Data into my computer , 1 GB space is lost in the Harddisk.
I DELETE 1 GB , and EMPTY recycle bin , the hard disk show 1GB space FREE , but WHERE does this deleted data go ? What is the SCIENCE / LOGIC on fate of deleted data ( emptied recycle bin ) if it does not leave the harddisk ??
