I just started watching baseball and I was wondering what are the stats, or the position, a team needs to have in order to compete in the playoffs.

No, They are done this year, they're just going through the motions now. They are HOPELESS and they all know it.

My optimism is fading every day. The bull pen has seemingly disappeared. The hitting, with the exception of Jeter has gone south and the prospect of Clemens coming to save the day seems more like a joke than a reality. Unlike 1978 when the Yankees were down 13 1/2 games in August but still had a lot of fight in them, this years team looks like the walking dead.

As long as they are mathematically still in it there is always hope. According to the media everyone in the organization seems to be more afraid of Steinbrenner than they are of the teams they must face during the remainder of the season. That's their first big mistake.

Even the playoffs seem a long way off. They have to start putting it together now or it will be too late.

NO!! They think Roger, the dodger, the bumbler, the self-adoring, the poor excuse for a human being will be their savior. Won't happen!! When he fails, be ready for all the excuses he and the Yankees can muster. I mean paying him 28 million dollars when they could have put that into a rebuilding program just shows how desperate and blind to the truth they are.

Chow!!

After seeing Clemens debut in triple A yesterday, I would say there is no hope for the Yankees.

there is always hope, but I don't think they will win the east, maybe outside shot of the wild card, if Roger is thier saving grace.
