Poland's child rights ombudsman said on Monday she was investigating whether "The Teletubbies," the British television show for infants, promotes homosexuality.
In an interview with the weekly news magazine Wprost, Sowinska said the character Tinky Winky was in the spotlight.
The plump purple creature is considered male due to his relative height, but carries a handbag.
"I have heard that this could be a hidden homosexual insinuation," said Sowinska.
Poland's deputy speaker of parliament Ludwik Dorn, a conservative Catholic, reprimanded Sowinska, telling her to avoid public statements that could make the ombudsman's office look "ridiculous," said Dorn's spokesman Witold Lisicki.
Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po -- the four chubby luminous-coloured furry figures with aerials on their heads and television sets in their bellies -- appeared on BBC television for the first time in 1997.

Next it will be Robinson Crusoe and Man Friday! How many characters can you name who could be misconstrued as being gay? Maybe it is time to pose that question here?

bugs bunny is a closet transgender.
he's ALWAYS dressing up, and i doubt theres a single cartoon from the older-period which doesn't involve him kissing elmer Fudd.
same goes for Daffy.. always with the big over exageratted kiss before running off leaving the victim stunned.
though it's all in innocence, it wasn't meant to promote it.
some peopel jump at the chance to ridicule anything.. it just makes them look ridiculous.
bill and ben were flowerpot men.. i remember watching that when i was 4 years old.. but they were made of flowerpots.. and they never did anything sexual, how can that be made out to be gay?
ok, ernie and bert slept in bed together, i guess theres some room for interpreting it that way..
but then again, you know what they say.. for someone to interpret a situation to mean a certain thing, they were most likely obsessed with said thing to begin with.
cartoons aren't meant to be taken seriously.. i mean, explain the smurfs, hundreds of them, yet ONE female out of all of them, and they all have one smurf as the "papa"? think about how that came about, especially as they are all roughly the same age.
i blame stupidly overconscious politically correct people blowing things out of proportion with their obsession's, and lazy parents who abandon their kids in front of a TV, rather than sitting there with them.

Small children do consider the carrying
of a hand bag as a natural thing for
women do.
I went to see an old friend, and left my
pocket book in the car. Her little just over
2 1/2 year old Grandson said,
" Where is your pocket book"?
He had never seen me before, but
thought that by being a Female I should
have one.
I knew then that the Teletubby with the
red purse was confusing to small children.

Of course teletubbies are not Gay. That is silly nonsense. You have to have sex to be Gay, and they are not sexual characters in any way that I am aware of. Never heard of Bill & Ben, or Noddy and Bigears. I did hear once that Bert and Ernie of Sesame Street were Gay tho. I think people who say such things have way too much time on their hands. And must be at least a little stupid.

you know what? Who cares. it makes me so mad eerrrggg. I love the teletubbies, what are we teaching our children, what about the children that are gay, they see adults bashing anything or anyone being or MABY being gay, It will scare them way into the closet. and that is a horrible place. who knows, your child could be gay, or brother, uncle, friend. You dont know, what do you think their gonna just come out and say it? not when people are so judgementol over children shows,so really who cares. thank you for letting me vent, I feel much better now.

Jerry Farwell started that. He's as intelligent as anyone of those self righteous, do as I say not as I do, morons (like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton). By the way, the absolute way to tell if a program promotes homosexuality...it has men sleeping with men on it!!!

Some people will do anything to get their name in print or 30 seconds on TV. Avoids having to deal with more fundamental pressing issues, and no doubt panders to a right wing agenda. Sounds like this silly bint has too much time on her hands.

Buster from Arthur the Aardvark's mum was a lesbian. I don't see the problem with gay characters on children's tv shows .. it will teach kids that its not weird or strange which is always a good thing.
