I still have trouble with this too but the best way is as soon as you realize you are thinking negative say to yourself "stop". Then think of or list all the good things about the issue, or all the things you are grateful for in general, or any thought that makes you smile. Write them down if you have to. I started a journal where I don't allow myself to write down anything negative. I can't talk about my bad day just list positive sayings or things I am grateful for. When I go back and read it later I don't have any of the depressing things written to bring back bad memories, just good things. You may go back to thinking negative later but just try to stop yourself each time and go back to positive thinking. You will probably never be able to stop all negative thoughts but if you keep at it you will start to have far more positive thoughts than negative.

Learn to control your thoughts (they are the basis for your negative attitudes and feelings). Use the "4-S Method" of thought control. Here it is, in short form: 1. Stop sign -- When you sense a thought you don't want in your head, in your imagination hold up a huge red stop sign, perhaps being held by a stern-faced crossing guard! 2. Shout it out -- Shout at the thought, scream at it, curse at it, yell at it (all in your mind, of course!) until you can sense that it is leaving your mind. (The nice thing about the mind is that it cannot contain more than a single conscious thought at a time.) Treat it like an intruder in your mind, someone you DO NOT want in there! Get angry at it! 3. Substitute -- Have handy a sentence or thought to put in the place of the unwanted thought. Make it something strong, something positive, something you really want to believe! (Some people carry such positive or self-encouraging thoughts with them, on 3 x 5 cards.) 4. Sustain -- Keep at it. YOU CREATED THE UNWANTED THOUGHT FOR A REASON! ("Psychology of Use" says you think all your thoughts in order to get something from them!) As you kick the unwanted thought out the front door, it will turn around and try to sneak in a window or down the chimney! DON'T LET IT! Keep repeating the four S's until you find yourself to be in charge of the thought you don't want. As you become more comfortable with this, you'll find you are more in control of your whole mind, and also of your feelings. By this time next week you will be feeling much more positive, and you will be more in control of your thoughts. IF NOT, that's an indication you have chosen to continue to be negative, and that you've decided not to change your thinking.

the key to how we perceive things always root to how we see ourselves. To have a positive thinking, begin with building enough self confidence and high self esteem. Recognize your abilities and your weaknesses. Know and work on those things you can achieve. For those you think will be hard, realize that it takes more effort for you. Have a good attribution about things. There are really things we just can't and are impossible to have. Once you have this mindset, having positive thinking will naturally come.

It's hard when you have such negative things happening in our world all the time. TO be positive all the time you need to change your mind set. Like everything you would see as negative in someone, you would have to try to find the good in that person...even your worst enemy. And believe that all that is happening in the world is for a reason. Like for instance, if you normally talk about a co-worker in a negative tone, try to see this person's good and see how much better that feels. Believe me being negative takes energy out of you, so you will see a difference. Start volunteering for things in your community, it'll give you a positive feeling about yourself. All of of times we are negative about others, because it is actually within that we are pointing to. If we love ourselves, we will be a more positive person. I know it sounds corny, but it is true.

Nice question. It is not that easy to be consistent throughout the time. But one can manage if one has the desire to do so. It is the will power and positive intention which are major factors attributing to it.

Philosophy and religion are close allies. Ability to think is so remarkable that it can only be attributed to something super-natural; in my book that is God, Creator of all things. So it must be through God that you can achieve positive thinking. Try prayer.

it is simple. always think of a result(goal). best example is- if a person is asking how to cross the river, there are 2 ways of telling it a) by boat, by swimming etc etc b) if venture to cross, you will drown or will be caught by crocodile etc etc. here the goal is to cross the river. instead of suggesting to cross it using boat if there is fear of crocodile, you create fear in saying there is crocodile. from this you can judge, what way we can be positive. if your thinking is based on achieving result, automatically your thinking should work on positive way.
