Fairy Tale - Cinderella
Nursery story - Apparently, I always loved Chicken Licken
Nursery Rhyme - I Had A Little Nut Tree
One of the first books I remember reading (I got it for my 6th Christmas) was a collection of stories of Ancient Roman and Greek Mythology; I still had the book and I remember thinking that Pandora's Box was brilliant.
I loved Enid Blyton's School Stories and I had complete sets of Mallory Towers and St. Claires until I sold them to my boss for her granddaughters last year.
I read every Asterix the Gaul graphic novel there was when I was at school.
And when I was a teenager I moved onto Star Trek novels, I must have read a hundred of them. Strangely enough, I'm reading yet another at the moment.
We may have been working class and brought up on a rough estate with little money coming in but we were always surrounded by books and were given them for Christmas every year. It was sad when my brother remarried and I was told that they weren't interested in books and so I wasn't to buy my new niece any for Christmas or birthdays.
My sister on the other hand has about 30,000 books in her small three bedroomed terrace house.

The Swallows and Amazons series by Arthur Ransome. Real adventure stories about camping and sailing that you could easily imagine yourself getting involved with. Enid Blyton shamelessly copied him, but he was a real writer and won many literary awards.
