I'm 38 weeks too and I have been going through the exact same thing. I feel like I'm absolutely losing my mind. My last appointment I was told I was one cm dialated. I've looked it up on line, and unfortunately, we could go any day, but then again we could go any week. There isn't an exact science to labor, and it's making me mad as well. You're not alone.

Hey,
please don't try Castor oil again it has bad effects on the baby...
With your appointment maybe ask the doctor will they'll strip your membranes can't hurt.
You baby will come when their ready...

Don't listen to what they say about height on an ultra-sound because I was told my son was going to be about 6lbs MAX 7 and well I delivered a 8lb 1oz baby boy!

With your braxtons just becarful and if they get too painful you can go to the l&d and see whats going on...

If the discharge is thick and like snot then it's your mucus plug.

It's so hard just waiting but remember that your first pregnancy is more than likley to go over your due date!

Keep walking and having sex and try moving furniture around and they might start to put you into labour...
Even have a nice relaxing bath and just try to relax because if your tence then the baby won't come!
Try also drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea because that is good for uterine contractions...
{Most of these things will only work if the baby is ready to come, except walking will helpt eh baby to move further into your pelvis and push more on your cervix and hopfully dilate you more!}

Goodluck almsot there now!

Anytime now. But honestly, this kind of early latent labor where you have regular contractions that are occasionally painful, the discharge, etc. could go on for many days.

Sorry to hear you fell for the old castor oil ruse. That doesn't work, I wish women would quit trying it, because you can make yourself really ill and stress your baby in utero. I giggle a little bit when I hear women say, "I took castor oil and my baby was born 12 hours later!" - because do they really know they wouldn't have gone into labor without the castor oil? Seriously, FAR more women have taken it and had it NOT work.

Babies come when they are ready, and there is nothing you can do to make it happen any faster - although you could try sex: even if it doesn't work, you can have fun trying!

Good luck and congrats in advance!

Iknow you don't want to here this but just be patient you baby will come when it's ready. It sounds like it should be soon, your body is doing everything it needs to do to prepare for labor. I second the don't try castor oil again. Try just some walking, steps, get on your hands and knees and scrub the floor. Also just ignore the weight estimates on the u/s they aren't always accurate at this stage. They can be off as much as 1-3 lbs in either direction in this point. There's only one true answer to the weight is they'll weigh baby after it's born. Enjoy this last part of your pregnancy as much as you can, you will be quite busy soon!

Hi!

This might not be what you want to hear.... BUT

I was dilated to 2 cms from 37 weeks until 12 days over my due date. I lost my mucus plug at 38 weeks, had strong Braxton Hicks every night from 38 weeks onwards etc...

I was due to be induced on 21 May, but as I was in the hospital, my contractions started naturally, and I had my daughter 5 hours later! (12 days over my due date)

If there is no blood in your discharge, I doubt it is the mucus plug... The pains down there are normal, it's the sheer pressure of the weight of baby.

I hope it goes faster for you and everything goes well - good luck!!

the pain is probably from the pressure of your little ones head against the birth canal (the tip of your cervix)

i'm assuming this is your first baby. first babies can take time to deliver (mine took 14 hours from start to finish!! i went to the hospital twice and they sent me home both times saying i wasn't dilated enough).

try to be patient and just keep doing what you've been doing (taking walks, etc). baby will come when he's ready and it could take you a few more days, even up to a week to be dilated enough to go back to the hospital.

congratulations and hang in there!!

Relax. The baby will come when it's ready. Don't be in such a hurry. Once it's here, you won't be getting any sleep so get as much rest as you can while you have the chance. When its time for that baby to be born, it will happen. You'll learn that in this life, you just don't have control over everything, nor should you.
