3/10 of his 5/6th weekly allowance has been spent on a toy.
Remaining 7/10 of 5/6th weekly allowance is left or (7/10)*(5/6)=35/60=7/12

Cost of toy as a fraction of his allowance
3/10 x 5/6 = 1/4

What he has spent
1/4 + 1/6 = 5/12

Therefore fraction of remaining is
1 - 5/12 = 7/12

Simply a matter of multiplying the two fractions--5 x 3 is 15, the numerator; 6 x 10 is 60, the denominator, so the answer is 15/60 which reduces to 1/4. He had one-fourth of his allowance left.

If he spent 3/10 of what he had, then he had 7/10 of his original amount left. and 7/10 of 5/6 is
(7/10)*(5/6) = 35/60 = 7/12 of his original allowance.

1-3/10=7/10

7/10 x 5/6
=35/60
=7/12

7/10 x 5/6 = 35/60 = 7/12

7/12 of his allowance is remaining

(they made that one a bit tricky, because they say he used 3/10 of what was remaining, which means he still kept 7/10 of what was remaining!)
