Right, I know all the fellas are gonna be arguing over this question, what was the greatest gangster film ever? (As it being bank holiday yesterday, I watched a large collection of them, starting with Godfather Part 1, Scarface, Goodfellas and Reservoir Dogs).

Godfather and Godfather Part II are in all honesty two of the 5 or 10 best films that have ever been made by anyone, period, and are probably among the best pieces of art in *any* genre that Americans have created. These are about as close to perfect films as I think films can come.

you may have not seen this one since its a TV show and not a movie Boardwalk Empire (started in 2010 and still going) Chronicles the life and times of Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. its a mixture of real life gangsters (such as Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Arnold Rothstein) and fictional characters its on HBO. season 2 starts next month you probably have seen all these, but i'll name them just in case you haven't seen them all Donnie Brasco (1997) The Godfather (1972) The Godfather Part 2 (1974) The Godfather Part 3 (1990) American Gangster (2007) Goodfellas (1990) The Untouchables (1987) Public Enemies (2009) Scarface (1983) Casino (1995) Blow (2001) (not really a "gangster" movie. its about a drug dealer who worked for Pablo Escobar)

a lot of people would say **** like scarface and casino and goodfellas, thats all good but i think you would have to go all the way back to when real gangsters actaully ran the streets. I would say White Heat with James Cagney is the best, it was so good in the movie juice with tupac they where watching it

What a difficult one to answer. For me,personal the movies from the early 40's and 50's were the best.My 2 favorites both starred James Cagney,"Angels with dirty faces"made in 1948 along with Pat 'O' Brian.Cagney played a gangster who was eventully capture and was made to go to the chair. However he was idolised by streetwise kids who thought he was tough.'O' Brian persuaded him to go to the chair and turn yellow, meaning soft to make the kids work out that crime does'nt pay.My 2nd choice is "White Heat" made 2 years earlier. This time, another heavyweight Humphey Bogart was in it and it has the classic last line,"Hey,Mama I'M ON top of the world" from Cagney.Wonderful film.

Depends on what's your definition of "gangster film", but I think I like Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 12. The up-coming Ocean's 13 won't be bad either.
