Well does a treatment or therapy exist that can help a person that's gay turn straight.. I was just wondering if anything did exist that could help me and help my relationship with my family and my personal well being as in having confidence or not feeling sad all the time or not being afraid of what I do in front of people so they won't suspect I'm gay.. Stuff like that... just wondering ;)

Absolutely not -- Sexual orientation is not something you can just turn on or off.

When religious say they can change people it makes me laugh.

I don't think you can rule out the possibility that for some people sexual orientation might change with time and circumstance. We do know it cannot be consciously controlled or chosen. Perhaps at some time in the future, when we have learned a lot more about how sexual attraction works, medicine or psychology will discover some way to change sexual orientation for those who want that. But for now, you must assume you will always be homosexual, and that if there is a God, that this is part of how God made you.

There are people who claim to have such treatments but I'm not sure whether there are any iron-clad results to say that they work. Normally these types of therapies are run by fundamentalist Christian groups who claim that being gay is a choice and we should all simply repent.

Anyone who is gay will tell you that having homosexual orientation is far from choice. Who would choose to be ridiculed and isolated from friends and family?

I imagine if you are gay then you have already had attempts at changing without success.

You don't say how old you are or where you come from but clearly there elements in your immediate surroundings that are causing you concern.

One of the hardest things is coming to terms with being in a minority group - some are in minorities because of their skin colour, others because of a disability, others because of their sexual orientation or even religion.

I think the most important thing for you is to have somebody you can speak with about the possibility of being gay. A counsellor who you trust or a friend. They can help talk through the issues you face.

Unfortunately there aren't many ways to change the way people think. People think what they think. What's important to recognise is that you are who you are... a beautiful human being not flawed or wrong in any way. You are not your sexuality, you are more than that.

You are the way you interact with other people with care and compassion. You are the things you know. You are who you are because of EVERYTHING you do, and everything you experience.

Being gay is hard - and you certainly don't need to tell everyone about it. But you should talk to people. Depending on your age it may just be your hormones raging. The most important thing is to be able to talk to somebody about it, and not try to deal with it all yourself.

You need to find someone trusted to share this with and get some perspective on how you are in your whole life, not just your sexuality.

No, simply put, if there was a cure, there'd be no gay people.

But it's not a disease, so there's no cure.

Your sadness can be diminished by coming to terms with it, and most seem to find it helps to come out to the family. If you choose to come out, remember that for some it takes a while to come to terms with it.

But the exgay programs are a sham, it's a bunch of con artists sucking money from people's pain, offering a cure that doesn't work.

No you can't change your "orientation" ... You are what you are. You may want to seek therapy to be comfortable with who you are and that includes in a big way your sexual orientation. You may repress it for awhile, but you will be miserable beyond belief.

BTW .. .that bull about Ted Haggard being 100% cured and never gay is so much bull.

For the millionth time, NO.
What you should be asking is; "is there some family counseling that I can bring my parents to so they can accept me for who I am?"
You also would do well to find a therapist or counseling for yourself, to be confident in who you are. Be strong, Be yourself. Don't take any crap from anybody. Take a self defense class if you feel you are in danger of being picked on.
Hold your head up high. You are a creation of the Universe. Nature dictates that you love yourself.

No. There is nothing you can do.

You can "fake" it like some gays do and date/marry an opposite sex person. But you will not be happy with it.

Being gay is very hard since so many loved ones are not familiar with it and tend to reject you at first until they understand it. Some never can get over it.

The only way to change your sexuality - gay or otherwise - is to get a lobotomy.

A full frontal lobe lobotomy will totally kill your sex drive.

You'll be a vegetable, but you'll no longer be gay.

Now stop feeling sorry for yourself, you drama queen!

no there is no treatment. you are how you are.
some places offer 'cures' most of their clients committ suicide, the others have affairs or 'relapse' after they find a partner of the other sex, and other suffer from depression.
they all respond physically to the same gender after 'treatment', so it doesn't cure biological responses it only teachs celibacy
