Hey!
First and foremost, I'm a human being...
Second, if Canadians, Mexicans, Central Americans, South Americans, or whoever want to claim they're also Americans...
Sounds cool to me...I have no problem at all with that general label of geo-political self description, and I can't imagine why anyone in today's world would object to that subjective, harmless declaration of identity that in no way compromises the United States of America...
I think it's high time we all started calling ourselves Earthlings, or Earthers, or simply just The People of the United Surface of Mother Earth...
I love the diversity of other cultures and religions and societies...life would be really boring if we were all same (unless that sameness was progressive free-thinking and wise environmental concerns, which ain't gonna happen within our lifetimes, but I truly believe it will happen one day in the far future...I'm 43, and I have noticed people are getting better...
It's our environment that's getting worse...
But as it turns out...that is only natural. Evolution has shaped the best parts of human behavior, endurance, and love with an almost endless onslaught of enormous survival problems, and we have (so far) passed with flying colors (7 billion people and counting, give or take a billion).
With every huge survival challenge humans face (such as global warming caused by the greenhouse gasses of our industrialized world) we rise to the occasion, and eventually overcome the seemingly insurmountable situation (we avoided a world-wide nuclear holocaust at a time when people thought it was inevitable...and 60 years after the invention of nukes...
We are still preventing that holocaust (at least for a while, and every year we prolong it, is a good year in the present, a good year last year, and the likelihood of a good year next year) and maybe we will prolong it long enough to get past the current state of the world that still makes it a slight possibility, until something else comes along to challenge humanity again.
I hereby apologize for the arrogant and overly-patriotic Joe Sixpacks of the world who think they are the ONLY Americans...
Good question, my fellow American...

I think this has become such an issue, ridiculous issue by the way, because young people are just learning in history class that America is a continent.
Who cares? And what is the big deal? Why would Mexicans, Colombians, etc want to be called Americans, which is word that is very, very recognized as being citizens of the United States? I don't get it. Why are young people having such a fit about this?
It's as silly as the recent arguments about whether certain races are actually Caucasians instead of what they've long been called. I think both issues say a LOT about the insecure nature of the persons arguing them.

North u . s . of america is a continent, u . s . of america is a rustic in the Continent, Like Canada is a rustic on North u . s . of america, u . s . of america is oftentimes referred to as u . s ., simply by very fact each and every of the states are united decrease than one shape. South u . s . of america is a distinctive continent, Brazil is a rustic on the Continent of South u . s . of america. you get the image now? we don't call a team of human beings based on the Continent, by skill of the country they are from. as quickly as you will discover the alterations of a continent and a rustic then you definately will understand

I actually call my self Minnesotan, unless someone specifically asks what nation.
Then I try to say a U.S. Citizen.
American refers to anywhere in the Western Hemisphere except Antartica or Greenland.
From southern Chile to the northern tip of Canada is all part of America.

the name of the nation is United States of AMERICA, so yes the citizens of the nation can call them selfs americans, its not like there is any other country in th western hemisphere that has the name america in its name, so if you want to be p/c or acute with a name you could SOUTH american if you want to talk about brazilians, or bolivians or NORTH americans if you wanna talk about canadiens or mexicans

Because they think that nobody else exits in this world...
If I live in South America, I should say also that I´m American... right? But they can´t live with that, they are narrow minded...
