It is a chronic health condition. There is no cure, but it will resolve in menapause.
Until then, there are medications to control the symptoms and prevent complications.

I was diagnosed with PCOS back in the spring of 2005. My doctor put me on metformin (a medication used for controlling diabetes, too) and it did nothing for me. I didn't have a cycle for 4-5 months. Then had the worst one of my life. I know there are other medications I can take to control my pcos and get my body back under control. One of the options that worked for me is to take birth control pills...as I was not trying to conceive at that time. One of the best websites I have found for support and information is http://www.soulcysters.net It's a free, message-board/chat type site and I love it. They have boards for everyone...about every issue. Even the boyfriends-husbands of the ladies have their own board. Highly recommended.

Hi. I suffer from PCOS and I just wanted to say that I asked my doctor about that, and she said that if I did take off some of the excess weight( have no idea if you are overweight or not), that it can change your hormones to where you won't have the facial hair so much...etc. Hope this is correct and hope this helps. It is hard to find info to support what she told me, but hey,.....I guess it really makes sense when you think about it. Eating differently and exercising is bound to make a difference with our hormones. Good luck!

I have PCOS and have been dealing with PCOS for 10 years. Unfortunately there is no cure for it but its symptoms can be managed with the help of medication.
An endocrinologist was the one who diagnosed me with PCOS after having ruled out other conditions and diseases such as Diabetes.
