I've tried the patch, the lozenges, hypnosis, the gum, and recently switching brands (from Newport>>KOOL>>Marlboro Menthol Ultra Lights>>and now, Virginia Slims Menthol Ultra Lights). I want to quit so badly, but I get so depressed and I feel like my personal growth with myself is at stake. I start to get upset about things that I had long got over, it's like when I quit all of it comes back. I'm trying so hard to work on myself (I had a rough past but I want a bright future), I don’t want to let anything that had kept me down before still keep me there today. Smoking is one of many. I feel like I’m unattractive and singled out because of it. I'm already a unique person (not meaning in a bad way), don’t help my image. People get the wrong impression (like lesbian, very offensive). I'm pretty, smart, attractive, and so many other good things. It took me years to feel that way about myself, but the cigarettes I feel like they’re holding me back. As soon as my nicotine level drops here come the depression and my emotional state, my self-esteem, and self- worth all come tumbling down. It’s just so much! Why can't I do this? I want so much for me and I feel like cigarettes are holding me back from them. Please help me!

Don't panic. The shortest and least stressful way to cover any withdrawals is to get some powerful help.
Get yourself a 'buddy',- a friend, or family - to be there when you need them for encouragement and diversion.

Make the effort to change your thinking to the reasons why you are quitting, rather than thinking how you miss those cigs. Whenever you catch yourself longing to smoke, stop right there and consciously change. If you have to, pull out your list of positives, and say them or shout them!

Once you've quit for 48-72 hours, the nicotine is out of your blood and the rest of your addiction is in your head. The good news is that there are heaps of things you can do to replace your habit - and solve your underlying problems. An absolute must is to eat healthy food because if you don't your hormones get out of balance and this affects your moods. Cut out sugar and junk food. Eat healthy snacks, do exercise or sports, and have things to do with your hands instead of putting a cig in your mouth. Organize new activities and hobbies to fill in your old smoking time. Keep busy, always looking ahead and don't brood on the past.

In order to get rid of a behavior that you don't like you have to replace it with another, more healthy behavior. You are going to have to figure out what new behavior this is for yourself. Since exercise is not something you can do whenever you crave a cigarette, try something like carrying around a bottle of water and whenever you have the urge to put a cigarette to your lips, take a sip of water. If you are getting depressed as a result of smoking I suggest going to see your doctor. They can prescribe a drug called zyban or wellbutrin (they are the same thing). It is an anti-depressant but in low doses it is also used as a drug to quit smoking. The first week you take it, it may make you a little hyperactive or jittery, this feeling will go away after your body adjusts to the drug. It is worth trying and the side-effects are not worse than the problem. Good Luck!

if the OTC (over the counter) products didnt work, i suggest for you to get a prescription for NICOTROL. it comes in an inhaler and nasal spray, so its up to you which one to use. You can start with this, to slowly decrease your nicotine intake. then theres also ZYBAN, prescription stop-smoking aid that doesn't contain nicotine.

Zyban is a pill, so it's easy to use. It doesn't contain nicotine and isn't addicting. The antidepressant drug can help control nicotine cravings

the inhaler allows you to receive some nicotine and mimic the hand-to-mouth motions of smoking. When you puff gently on the device, nicotine vapor is released from a cartridge inside the device. Hold the vapor in your mouth for a few seconds and then blow it out — don't try to inhale it into your lungs. The nicotine is absorbed through the lining in your mouth and throat. This is a start if you want to eventually quit smoking, the inhaler keeps your hands and mouth busy. You control the dose. You can take as few puffs as needed and save the rest of the cartridge for later in the day.

Nicotine nasal spray is sprayed inside your nostril. The recommended dose is a spray in each nostril one to five times an hour. Some people choose this because the nicotine in nasal spray reaches the bloodstream more quickly and begins working faster than other nicotine replacement products. You control the dose.

Smoking is a bad habit. I am a smoker myself. If you really want to quit, you have to just do it. Anytime that I have tried to quit I do it "cold turkey". I don't try to cut down beacuse that doesn't work and it makes you want it more. Smoking is barely an addiction compared to drugs like heroin and sorts. The best thing that has helped me quit is to think about my body and what I want for my life. I don't want to die young, and I want to work out and have a healthy body. The best remedy for me was chewing gum and eating lolipops. Anytime that you have a craving chew gum or eat some kind of suck on candy...it really helps. You have to believe in yourself. There's no way that smoking betters who you are. Do it, and don't think about it. It's better for you and more especially your health. : )

You should try with some recreation rather than patches, lozenges, hypnosis...All this **** is just taking away your time and your money...You should just go out into a fresh air and have a long walk each day before you go to bed...Instead of lighting a cigarette on your return, you should listen to some relaxing music...Quit watching TV, or at least bring it down to a minimum, it also helps ! Don't listen to stupid commercials, just buy a pair of snickers instead and go jogging in a local park ! It'll work, believe me !

quiting flat out will be hard unless you really put your mind up to it so this is what might help you
you can try sucking on candy
cutting the ciggarette in half and each time you just smoke less and less and you wont feel like you need more each time
you can try keeping really really busy with yourself give your hands something to do play with a stress ball and suck on a sucker or candy

did you know that one pack of smokes takes off two hours and twenty minutes of your life that is something to think about whenever you light one up

Try the counting method count how many cigs u smoke a day first then every 3-5 days or every week if u prefer cut back by one then u will slowly lower your nicotine levels instead of shocking your body cold turkey. It takes 2 week for nicotine to completely leave your system.

i quit by eating jolly ranchers...i ate a ton of them but it worked, and i also stayed unbelievably busy.
