considering the man's life there are a few i'd have to choose by Hank Williams Sr. I saw the light, Lost Highway and of course the gut renching I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, Tupac's Brenda's Got A Baby, Nirvana's Where did you sleep last night, 3 Doors Down's Here without You and The Randy Rogers Band's I Miss You With Me.

"Alone for the Holidays" by Peter Cetera. It's all about a woman who lost the man she loved and you're left wondering what happened to him. I mean, it's never exactly mentioned in the song what happened, he could have died or he could have simply left her. All it says it that he's not coming home (another line replaces not with never), which could mean either.

Then there's a couple of songs by Chicago, "Memories of Love" and "Upon Arrival."

In "Memories of Love" you actually know what happened cause the song flat out says the woman the man loved died that very day.

(Now I kneel and pray
For the Lord took her today
And all that's left to think of
Are the memories of her love)

"Upon Arrival" is kinda like "Alone for the Holidays" cause you don't know what happened to the guy. The whole song song is about folks waiting to pick up their loved ones at an airport (or in the case of the chauffeur mentioned at the very start of the song, the VIP). But at the very end of the song you find out about a young girl who ends up crying cause her boyfriend wasn't there. Why is never mentioned, but it's just the picture of her love being gone.
