Good girl. Your question made me :) esp the 'whacking' bit ! My husband says his father used to make him check his galoshes for scorpions !

I did when I stayed out in AZ with my grandma... I hated it out there in the desert! I was always afraid that a spider or a scorpion would get into my shoes. I ditched my tennis shoes for flip flops most of the time though because i didn't even want to think about it. In MI (where I live) I don't feel compelled to check my shoes. Things are pretty harmless and the dangerous spiders are pretty scarce in these parts.

NO WAY!!!! I DO TOO!!!!! I thought I might be the only one that did that!

I am terrified of Spiders. I just mentioned that a few minutes ago in another answer.

Before I put my shoes on, I always hold my shoes by the toes and bang the heels on the floor to jar any spider out, that might be in there.
Then I look.

Wow. Thanks for asking this. I thought I was weird.hahahaha.

Yes, Brown Recluse spiders are common in my area as are Widows. The Widows are easy to spot for the most part, but the Recluse goes into garden gloves, shoes, etc. and I really don't want a skin graft right now.

I am too but I dont do that. Thats funny but I think I'll start.
One time my husband was driving and my brother in law was in the backseat. He looked up and said "Theres a spider on your window" to me and I freaked out. I almost jumped right into my husbands lap and my brother in law had to reach up and kill it for me. Another time when I was little a spider crawled up my leg in my moms car when she was driving. I screamed so loud she almost crashed. And another time, my sister was sitting across from me at the kitchen table and all of a sudden her eyes got all big and she goes "Dont move! There is something on your neck." I was like "What? No theres not!" cuz I thought she was pulling my leg. I looked down and theres a spider crawling across my chest. I screamed, jumped up, knocked the kitchen chair over, and was smacking the hell out of my chest. My dad was napping on the couch and woke up, terrified because he thought something bad was happening to me. And after I was like "WHERED IT GO!? WHERED IT GO!?"

Me too! I also look under and around the bed because the mean ones like dark places. My neighbor was bit in her bed and had to spend three months in the hospital, The brown recluse is famous for being under and around beds and come out at night Behind the head board etc. I'm going to go look now! Sleep tight. And sweet dreams :-)

Never, but I do check spiders for shoes. I figure if I find one, I could make a lot of money on e-bay.

My sister checks the oven mitts before she puts her hand in.

I check my straws. One time a spider crawled in my straw and I sucked it up. It didn't bite me. I think we scared each other.
