I am an active member of a sorority: AOPi. I love everything about it. I know there are stereotypes and negative views of Greek life but what people don't see are the great things. A sorority is just like the Varsity socccer team and a fraternity is similar to the boys bball team. It is about friendship and loyalty to your chapter and your chapters beliefs. I am a proud AOPI and I know that I have 100 members plus all the alums and active members at all the other chapters that would be there for me knowmatter what. And to that some may say I pay for my friends, I guess that is true, but no amount of money can make up for these girls; they are my best friends, sisters, counselors, mentors, and role models. And people may think taht greek life is only about partying and I'm sure there are some greek systems that do only focus on it, but there is so much more. We have sisterhoods, an abundance of community service event. We just raised 6000 dollars in ONE week to send a child with a life threatening disease to Disney World. It was one of the best moments in my life to see thsi little kid who may not be here tomorrow get his wish granted. It is more than friendship, it is a love for another. I love my sisters and the differences we can make in people's lives!

Yes, there is a 'partying' stigma attached to Greek organizations but ultimately they are a great way to meet new people and become involved with your college community. Also, being involved in an organization such as a Sorority/Fraternity looks great on job applications. Most people do not join Greek organizations solely to party.

No way! My friend was in one for 4 years and she did nothing but school work and go to her never-ending meetings. I was having lunch with her and the president one day...casually...and one of the other members asked if she could skip some event because she had a midterm to study for. The president said the only way out was if you are scheduled to work or have class, so no, so-and-so, you have to come. I didn't say anything but I thought...OMG!!! so glad I'm not part of that. It's one thing to meet peopke and "make friends" but it just was too "cult"-ish if you asked me...which you did:-)
