Go for Opera. However, there are tweaks for both the browsers available, to make them even faster than they already are.

Here are some of the things you can do to speed up Opera:

1)Disable local network check..especially when your PC ain't connected to a network. Do this by Tools -> Preferences -> advanced -> network -> server name completion (button) ..now uncheck 'look for local networked machine'. Also uncheck name completion if you don't require it.

2)Go to the same network section as above tip , here increase max connections to a server and max total connections , try different numbers, and check whether it has an effect.

3)Clear autocomplete entries from the addy bar, if you have browsed a bit in Opera, you must have noticed, that it gets slow while typing addresses if it has too many entries...since Opera's autocomplete is related to its history, so clearing history will clear autocomplete entries. (Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> History -> Clear) .Also in the same history section, you might wanna decrease the remembered entries in history to say 100 from the default 500.

4)If Opera is slow in starting up, make sure you don't have a large urlfilter.ini file. It resides in your profile folder of Opera. This file gets updated whenever you 'block content'(right click -> block content)Other reasons for slow startup could be large collection of history and cache.

5)Here's a good page that describes how to enhance performance in Opera:http://operawiki.info/OperaPerformance

As for Firefox:

Type in 'about:config' (without quotes) in the address bar of Firefox.
In the filter bar which comes up, type in 'network.http' (without quotes). Now here set the preference network.http.pipelining to 'true' . Also set network.http.proxy.pipelining to 'true'
However, one thing to note is that the pipelining feature may not be supported by all proxies and web servers, so even setting these two preferences as true will have no effect in making firefox faster on certain sites which don't support pipelining.
Other entries which you can tweak are:
network.http.pipelining. maxrequests . You can see that this is set to 4. what this means is under pipelining, the browser will make 4 requests to a server at once. Change this to 8 and check. Browse a bit for a day and then again come back to this preference and change it to 30 or 32 and see if you can see any difference.
Another setting is to add a preference network.http.pipelining. firstrequest . for this right click on about:config page and select new- > boolean . now type in network.http.pipelining. firstrequest (NOTE: there is no space between pipelining. and firstrequest. i had to put the space to prevent the entry from appearing like fir....) and set this to true.

The final setting is tweaking the response time of firefox w.r.t the info it receives from a web server. This is also done by adding a new preference. Right click in the about:config page and select new -> Integer and type nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set this to 0

relies upon, Google Chrome has the quickest information superhighway. information superhighway Explorer, is a no-no, it somewhat is been hacked far too many circumstances. Opera is extremely good nevertheless. Firefox is information superhighway explorer no.2. i assume I could desire to easily teach attributes: GC= rapid information superhighway, incognito to confirm snoops can not thieve archives. Safari= HD, greater uncomplicated for historic previous, you are able to enable deepest surfing, like Chrome, however the human beings can not observe the version from PB, yet with incognito, on the real-left nook it shows a detective guy. Firefox= greater advantageous buttons to bypass returned, yet different from that, it somewhat is information superhighway Explorer No.2 information superhighway Explorer= Uhhh, not something particular.... Opera= cutting-side seems, and uncomplicated to delete historic previous. you need to apply it to iPod's and iPhones, it seems somewhat intense high quality. Over all, i assume it is going with what your using. Opera, and Google Chrome are meant for computing device's and laptops, yet Safari is the perfect for the Mac's and stuff. Your taking this from a guy who used em all.

If it is one over the other, would advise Opera as Firefox is even slower than Netscape; however, both are not really expontentially faster than any other browser. If you want speed, find out if FIOS is offered in your area.
