If it takes 10 men 8 hours, then thats 80 hours of cummulative work. 10*8=80 So if you only have 8 men and you need to complete 80 hours of cummulative work, the it would take 10 hours.80/8=10hours

Here's one way of looking at this problem. If 10 men take 8 hours to complete the job of erecting a fence, and 1/5 of the men don't show up to do the job, then only 4/5 of the work force is present. That means the remaining 8 men will take 5/4 as long as it would if all 10 men were working. If we let t be the number of hours 10 men take to do the job, then the new time, t ', is (5/4) t. Then this is what we get for our answer:

t ' = 5/4 (8 hr) = 10 hr.
