Well other methods besides traiffs like quantee, and safety inspections on products, and create rules in place to make it paper trail to prevent products coming in. Still, if you are Caudlillo in third world would you dropped traiffs to let procuders go under, and have massive unemployment on the streets, and ricardo theory is good on paper, but not good for reelection.

Long run trade makes products cheaper for the comsumer, and makes the poorest better off, but the problem is politcal aspect of trade, and in some poor nations politicans do have to face some of the voters, and they have to be realist and know that producer probadly be better off with compeition to make the economy more efficent, but my reelection is more important.

I like the idea of prohibitions, especially. We as consumers should not prostitute ourselves for the sake of a bargain.

The best idea is to prohibit these goods entirely, and apply tariffs that would make them cost the wholesaler/distributor 150% of the price of similar goods produced in the US. This would effectively prevent them from distribution in the marketplace.
